“Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2026” – Vibrant Celebration of Avurudu at NSBM

The much-anticipated Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration of NSBM Green University, “Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2026,” unfolded at the Phase 1 Grounds. The event was held radiating the true spirit of Avurudu, featuring traditional rituals, festive delicacies, and cultural performances that beautifully reflect the rich heritage of Sri Lanka.

The occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, and Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance Prof. J. Baratha Dodankotuwa, along with Deans of faculties, academic and administrative staff, alumni, and students.

The celebration continued throughout the day in an atmosphere filled with joy, enthusiasm, and togetherness. Students, alumni, and staff are actively engaging in a variety of traditional Avurudu games and cultural festivities
The most anticipated highlight of Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2026, the Awurudu Kumara and Kumariya contest, once again unfolded amidst the grandeur of the event’s closing ceremony. Continuing the legacy of previous years, the competition drew over 200 contestants and shortlisted finalists competed under a distinguished panel of judges.

Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2026 Awurudu Kumara and Kumariya concluded on a high note with the crowning of outstanding winners. Himaya Dissanayake was crowned Awurudu Kumariya, while Amindu Prabodh won the title of Awurudu Kumara.
The second place in the Awurudu Kumara category was secured by Manjitha Sri Kariyawasam, while Prarthana Dewmini was adjudged second place in the Awurudu Kumariya category.

Third place winners included Nimain Lokusooriya in Awurudu Kumara and Kenuli Matharage in Awurudu Kumariya.
In the Most Popular category, decided through audience votes, Vidarshana Malwarakawa was recognized as the Most Popular Awurudu Kumariya, and Manjitha Sri Kariyawasam, claimed the Most Popular Awurudu Kumara.
