NSBM Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) Sri Lanka, recently hosted a pivotal phase of the prestigious Sky X Competition—a remote-controlled aircraft design and flight challenge that attracted participation from 30 schools across the island.
Following a series of rigorous evaluations, six top-performing schools were selected to advance to the next phase to demonstrate the capabilities of their custom-built remote-controlled aircraft. The shortlisted schools included Bandaranayake College – Gampaha, Thurstan College – Colombo, Nalanda College – Colombo 10, Royal College – Colombo 7, Holy Cross College – Gampaha and Mahinda College – Galle.
The competition’s recent phase began with participating school teams visiting the NSBM Faculty of Engineering for an introductory session on aircraft design, flight dynamics, and safety standards. The event culminated at the NSBM Phase II Grounds, where teams showcased the performance and control of their aircraft in live demonstrations.
