Recognising the timely need to support and guide students in the dynamic fitness discipline of Calisthenics, NSBM Green University has taken the initiative to launch the first-ever Calisthenics Club in Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape. Calisthenics, a form of strength training that relies on one’s body weight for resistance, has garnered widespread popularity as an effective means of achieving fitness goals. This historic move underscores the university’s commitment to fostering holistic development and promoting physical well-being among its student body.

During the inaugural meeting of the club, an executive board was appointed to provide strategic direction and leadership. Leading the charge as the Master in Charge is the esteemed Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in sports and fitness. Ms. Maneesha Dias is assisting him in this endeavor as the mistress in charge of the club. Chamoj S. Bandara was appointed as the first president of the NSBM Calisthenics Club.

One of the key highlights of the Calisthenics Club is its utilisation of the newly built open-air gym, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities tailored specifically for callisthenics training.

The NSBM Sports Fiesta 2024 provided the perfect platform for the Calisthenics Club to showcase their talent and passion for this dynamic fitness discipline. As they soared through the air with grace and determination, they not only entertained the crowds but also inspired a new generation of athletes to pursue their fitness goals with dedication and perseverance.

This groundbreaking initiative not only underscores NSBM Green University’s commitment to promoting a culture of fitness and well-being but also sets a precedent for other institutions in the higher education sector to follow suit. As the first-ever Calisthenics Club in Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape, it proudly paves the way for students to explore and excel in this dynamic fitness discipline.
