NSBM Students’ Legal Research Symposium 2026
The Students’ Legal Research Symposium 2026, organized by our Department of Legal Studies, was successfully held under the theme “Justice and Sustainability: Legal Responses to Global Challenges.” The event brought together a day of insightful research presentations and engaging academic discussion.
The symposium featured keynote addresses by Dr Kalana Senaratne, Head of the Department of Law, University of Peradeniya, and Dr Saranee Gunathilaka, Attorney-at-Law and Co-founder & CEO of UDecide Mediation.
The occasion was graced by Dr Thilini De Silva, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Prof. Shanthi Segarajasingham, Head of the Department of Legal Studies; and the faculty members attached to the Department of Legal Studies, whose presence added value to the occasion.
The symposium comprised multiple parallel sessions, namely:
Panel on Public Law, Panel on Commercial Law, Panel on Private Law, Panel on Technology & Emerging Legal Issues, and Panel on Environmental & Sustainability Law. Special acknowledgement goes to the panellists, including Prof. Sudath Amarasena, Ms. Elisha Fernando, and Mr. Mevan Nanayakkara, for their valuable contributions.
The success of the symposium was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the organizing team. Special appreciation goes to Symposium Chair Dr. Rashika Mudunkotuwa, Symposium Secretary Ms. Navini Premalal, and student volunteers of the Students’ Legal Research Symposium 2026 for their outstanding contributions in creating a remarkable platform for student research and academic engagement.
