"AquaVive" Mangrove Restoration Initiative by 24.2 Batch Undergraduates

The AquaVive project was launched by our 24.2 batch undergraduates under SDG Goal 14 – Life Below Water, focusing on Target 14.2: sustainably managing and protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, restoring degraded habitats, and ensuring healthy, productive oceans.

As part of this initiative, mangrove saplings were planted on 28th July 2025 at the Lanka Mangrove Museum, Halawatha, contributing to the restoration of coastal ecosystems and advancing marine conservation efforts.

The project plays a vital role in preventing shoreline erosion, improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting the livelihoods of local fishing communities by preserving crucial breeding grounds for marine species.

Carried out as part of the students’ CREST programme, the initiative highlights their dedication to environmental protection and sustainable development.
