Faculty of Business Students Gain Hands-On Experience in Logistics at Colombo Port

The Department of Operations and Logistics of our Faculty of Business organized a field visit to the Port of Colombo on 15th August 2025, under the guidance of Mr. Maleesha Edirisinghe, Lecturer attached to the Department.

During the visit, students were accompanied by Mr. Chamara Wijayawickrama, Chief Superintendent of the Marketing & Business Development Division at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, who provided in-depth insights into the port’s operations. As the students toured the facilities, he offered detailed explanations of the operations carried out at each container terminal.

The students had the valuable opportunity to observe firsthand the operations at both the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and the East Container Terminal (ECT). This experience enabled them to bridge classroom learning with practical exposure, gaining a clearer understanding of port operations and logistics management.

Overall, the visit proved to be a remarkable educational experience, fostering learning, exploration, and professional networking while deepening the students’ appreciation of the practical aspects of global logistics.
