“Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025,” the much-anticipated Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration of NSBM Green University, unfolded in a vibrant showcase of culture and tradition. This year’s celebration commenced with a grand opening ceremony, held in the true spirit of Avurudu, featuring traditional rituals, festive delicacies, and cultural performances that reflected the rich heritage of Sri Lanka’s Sinhala and Tamil communities.

The opening ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, and Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance Prof. J. Baratha Dodankotuwa, along with Deans of faculties, academic and administrative staff, alumni, and students. The event was further honored by the participation of two special guests—Prof. Praneeth Abeysundara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and Prof. Henrick Hanson from Stockholm University, Sweden. Also in attendance were representatives from the official partners of Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025: Chello, Kandos, Munchee, and Coca-Cola.

The celebration continued throughout the day with an atmosphere filled with joy, enthusiasm, and togetherness, as students, alumni, and staff engaged in a variety of traditional Avurudu games and cultural festivities—creating cherished memories and strengthening the NSBM spirit of unity.

Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025 reached its pinnacle with the most anticipated highlight of the celebration—the Avurudu Kumara and Kumariya competition, held during the event’s closing ceremony. From over 200 spirited applicants, 24 outstanding finalists—male and female—were selected to compete in a captivating final round, evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sumedha Jayaweera, Principal of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo.

Supuni Pathmashantha became the “Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025 Avurudu Kumariya” and crowned the “Haritha Kirula” while Bhanuka Senanayaka won as the “Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025 Avurudu Kumara”. The second and third places of Avurudu Kumariya were won by Tishani Perera and Dulakshi Mayadunna, respectively. Sasen Bandara and Lakshitha Dissanayaka emerged as the second and third place winners of Avurudu Kumara.

Meantime, the winners under the most popular categories were selected based on the votes and Tishani Perera became the “Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025 Most Popular Avurudu Kumariya” while Tharusha Ganepola won the “Siyapathsiya Udanaya 2025 Most Popular Avurudu Kumara” title.
