Residential Workshop on Business Communication and Leadership for Masters students
Session 1 of Day 1 of the Residential Workshop 2025, organized by the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Professional Advancement for MBA, MBS, and MSc IT candidates, was held at The Blue Water Hotel, Wadduwa. The session featured an engaging and insightful presentation on “Transformational Leadership – Transformational Vision with Agile Execution,” delivered by Prof. Chaminda Ratnayake, Deputy Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University.
Session 2 of Day 1 was led by Mr. Channa Gunawardana, Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. and Executive Director & CEO of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC, who conducted a thought-provoking session on “Situational Leadership – Leading with Clarity, Confidence, and Context.”
Both sessions were exceptionally well-received and laid a solid foundation for the learning journey ahead—offering invaluable perspectives on leadership and inspiring the next generation of business professionals to think critically, act decisively, and lead with purpose.
The Workshop continued its impactful learning journey with two parallel workshops during the third session of Day 01—one tailored for MBA/MBS students, and the other for MIT/MSc IT students.
MBA and MBS students were offered an immersive and dynamic learning experience through a Business Simulation Workshop, which was conducted by Mr. Anton Thayalan, Chief Executive Officer of Luminary Learning Solutions, and his expert team. This carefully curated workshop enabled participants to engage with real-world business scenarios in a competitive environment, encouraging teamwork, critical thinking, adaptability, and effective communication.
At the same time, a parallel Coding Workshop was conducted for MIT/MSc IT candidates by Mr. Sameera Nelson, Senior Software Architect – Enterprise, Systems & Cloud Solutions, along with his team. This session provided participants with practical exposure to technical problem-solving and real-time coding exercises.
On Day 2, the Outbound Training (OBT) session marked a high-energy and impactful conclusion to the two-day learning experience. The session aimed to enhance students’ leadership, communication, and team-building skills through dynamic outdoor activities.
Led by Major Shehan Pilapitiya and his experienced team from Outbound Adventures Sri Lanka, the training was designed to take participants out of their comfort zones and place them in challenging yet enjoyable group scenarios. Participants actively engaged in a variety of physically and mentally stimulating tasks that encouraged them to communicate effectively, lead with confidence, and operate efficiently as part of a team.
The Outbound Training provided a memorable conclusion to the Residential Workshop, reinforcing the values of experiential learning, self-discovery, and professional growth. The Faculty looks forward to continuing such initiatives that shape students into resilient and future-ready professionals.
The successful execution of this two-day workshop was supported by the presence and encouragement of key academic figures, including Prof. Chaminda Ratnayake, Deputy Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University; Dr. Piyumi Wickramasinghe, Dean – Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Professional Advancement; Dr. Rasika Ranaweera, Dean – Faculty of Computing; along with academic program coordinators Mr. Venura Colombage (MBA), Ms. Rekha Kulasekara (MBS), and Dr. Pabudi Abeyrathne (MSc IT).
