NSBM Final-Year Engineering Undergraduates Visit Randenigala Hydropower Station
NSBM final-year engineering undergraduates specializing in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, as well as Mechatronic Engineering, recently undertook a field visit to the CEB Hydropower Station at Randenigala.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe the Randenigala and Rantambe reservoir complex and explore the internal operations and technical aspects of the hydropower station under the guidance of the electrical engineering staff of the CEB. The visit provided valuable industry exposure and helped bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world electrical engineering practice.
Following the tour of the hydropower facility, the students visited the newly constructed Minipe Irrigation Distribution Station as well. This station, which operates in close touch with the Ceylon Electricity Board, plays a crucial role in managing irrigation water for farming communities downstream of the two main canals branching from the left and right banks of the Mahaweli River.
This comprehensive field experience offered students not only insights into the application of electrical engineering principles in a large-scale hydroelectric power station but also a broader understanding of how hydroelectric generation is intricately connected to Sri Lanka’s agricultural productivity.
