NSBM conducts 4th CPD Session for 2025 on Integrating Psychological Aspects into Higher Education Pedagogy
The Quality Assurance and Staff Development Center of NSBM Green University successfully conducted its 4th Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Session for 2025, titled “Integrating Psychological Aspects into Higher Education Pedagogy,” on Friday, 14th November 2025.
The session was led by Prof. Chathuri Suraweera, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. Her insightful session explored the vital role of psychological principles in shaping effective and compassionate teaching and learning practices in higher education.
Throughout the programme, participants examined themes such as learner diversity, motivation, cognitive and emotional learning processes, and the application of psychologically informed strategies to enhance teaching quality, assessments, and student wellbeing. The interactive nature of the session allowed attendees to engage in in-depth discussions and reflect on practical approaches for building psychologically safe and supportive academic environments that promote student success and holistic development.
This initiative stands as a testament to NSBM’s unwavering commitment to fostering a student-centered academic culture grounded in empathy, inclusivity, and continuous professional growth.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Chamara Dissanayake and Ms. Yasanthika Mathotaarachchi, under the guidance of Dr. Malsha Mendis, Head of Internal Quality Assurance, and with the advisory support of Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance.
