The Department of Computer and Data Science of the Faculty of Computing at NSBM Green University organized an academic field visit to Port City Colombo on 19th September 2025, as part of the Urban Computing (DS405.3-UC-Y4S2-21.2/22.1) module, under the guidance of Ms. Hiruni Weerasinghe -Module Lecturer and Ms. Thilini Bakmeedeniya -Lecturer, Department of Computer and Data Science.

 

The program featured an introductory briefing and video session, a guided tour of the Sales Gallery, and a site visit to Phase I development areas, followed by a presentation on the Phase I to Phase II handover process.

 

The session was conducted by Eng. Pasindu Amila Wijesinghe, Senior Civil Engineer of the QAQC & Construction Department of the Colombo Port City Development Project, PH 01 & 02 – China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. Eng. He guided the students throughout the visit, with the support of his assistant, Mr. Amal Waragoda. Their detailed explanations and professional insights enriched the learning experience, giving students a practical perspective on smart city development and infrastructure management.

 

This visit provided students with valuable exposure to data-driven urban planning, IoT applications, and sustainable development practices, effectively bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications.
