NSBM Nursing Students Complete Community Health Field Visit Program 2026
The Department of Health Sciences under our Faculty of Science at NSBM Green University recently marked the successful conclusion of its Community Health Nursing Field Visit Program – 2026. Spanning from the 3rd to the 31st of March, the intensive month-long program offered nursing students a transformative experience in community-based healthcare.
Conducted under the expert supervision of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Homagama, the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between clinical hospital training and grassroots public health. During the training period, students were assigned to four distinct Public Health Midwife (PHM) areas, where they engaged in direct family visits, home assessments, and a diverse array of community-based health activities.
A core component of the field visit was the implementation of targeted community projects, focused on four vital pillars of well-being: Women’s Health, Oral Health, First Aid and Nutrition and Exercise. The culmination of their hard work was showcased during the Final Evaluation held on 7th April 2026.
The success of this program was made possible through the collaborative efforts of NSBM and local health authorities notably, Dr. Indika Katudam, Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Homagama, Ms. Vajira Dissanayaka, Public Health Nursing Tutor, MOH Homagama and the dedicated Public Health Midwives of the Homagama area.
