NSBM MIS Undergraduates Visit JAT Holdings
As part of the module “Business Process Management”, offered at the 2nd-year of the BSc (Hons) in Management Information Systems degree programme, our students had the invaluable opportunity to explore the end-to-end business processes within a real-world manufacturing environment at the JAT Holdings Factory Complex in Kahathuduwa.
The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of how Business Processes are integrated with emerging technologies and the development of ERP systems, while giving students first-hand exposure to logistics operations, warehousing management, paint manufacturing workflows, and even the research and development section, where paint chemical formulas are designed and tested.
Throughout the day, students observed how middle-level managers and business process analysts monitor, model, and improve operations using modern tools and techniques, bridging the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world practices. The session was highly interactive and productive, featuring multiple case studies that encouraged students to engage with actual business scenarios, which will later serve as project-based learning activities within the module.
This insightful industry exposure was organized by Ms. Lakni Peiris, Lecturer in charge of the module, and the visit was accompanied by Ms. Yasanthika Mathotaarachchi, Lecturer attached to the Faculty of Computing, under the guidance of Dr. Rasika Ranaweera – Dean, Faculty of Computing, and Mr. Naji Saravanapavan – Head, Department of Software Engineering and Computer Security.
