NSBM Green University has taken another bold step forward in its global outreach journey, signing a new academic partnership with Southern Cross University (SCU), based in Melbourne, Australia. This marks another proud chapter in NSBM’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global network and offering Sri Lankan students access to world-class education locally.
The official signing ceremony was held on 22nd May 2025 at the NSBM Green University premises in Homagama. The event was graced by His Excellency Paul Stephens, High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, signifying a momentous occasion in strengthening academic ties between the two nations. The agreement was signed by Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, Vice Chancellor of NSBM, and Prof. Michael Ewing, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law & Arts at SCU.
Through this collaboration, Sri Lankan students will have the opportunity to enrol in Southern Cross University degree programmes delivered at NSBM. The partnership will initially focus on the fields of Business and Information Technology, with plans to expand into disciplines such as Health Sciences, Engineering, Education, and Law. The initiative aims to provide a comprehensive, internationally recognised academic experience that
remains both accessible and affordable to local students.
Following the signing, the High Commissioner and the visiting Australian delegates toured the picturesque NSBM campus, engaging with university officials and learning more about NSBM’s academic environment. A special tree-planting ceremony was also held at the NSBM Phase 2 development site, where H.E. Paul Stephens planted a Naa Tree—Sri Lanka’s national tree—as a symbolic gesture of goodwill and a shared commitment to sustainability and growth.
This new partnership with SCU represents yet another milestone in NSBM’s growing list of international collaborations, reaffirming the university’s vision of becoming a global hub for higher education in South Asia.
