Program Structure – 1-Year Master’s by Coursework

A candidate who intends to achieve an M.Ed in Educational Management and Leadership needs to fulfil the credit requirement of 75 credits in the two-year postgraduate period as per the standards of SLQF. In the 2nd semester of the programme, students will be expected to carry out a 15-credit Dissertation in addition to the courses taught, and the list of modules is given in the section below.

Admission criteria

An applicant shall fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements if he/ she possesses any one of the following qualifications:

  • A Degree in the field of education or in a related field, awarded by a recognised institution.
  • OR
  • A Degree in any other field, awarded by any recognised institution and a minimum of one year’s executive experience in the field of education.

  • OR
  • An Educational Postgraduate Diploma, which satisfies the criteria for a level 8 programme as specified in the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework, awarded by an institution acceptable to the NSBM and a minimum of one year's experience at an executive level.
  • OR
  • Any Postgraduate Diploma, which satisfies the criteria for a level 8 programme as specified in the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework, awarded by an institution acceptable to the NSBM, along with a minimum of two years' experience at an executive level in any field
  • OR
  • Any recognised professional qualification that is acceptable, on a case-by-case basis, to the Academic Governing Council of the university as an equivalent qualification to any of the above-mentioned requirements and a minimum of two years’ work experience in a managerial capacity in an institution acceptable to the NSBM.
  • OR
  • More than ten years of experience (Service minutes & provisions) in the field of education administration and services
  • OR
  • Principals and Administrators in the field of education with a proven track record
  • OR
  • Evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent.
