BSc (Honors) in Data Science programme at NSBM Faculty of Computing is carefully designed in line with the latest ACM and IEEE guidelines for Data Science undergraduate awards and aims to produce graduates with the required skills and knowledge in core and emerging trends in the technological and business disciplines.

During the first year, students will develop their foundational knowledge in computing, which is mandatory to absorb Data Science related concepts and their applications. From second year onwards, gradually the Data Science flavor of the degree programme is escalating. In the third year, whilst sharpening their skills on data science, they ought to fulfill a mandatory industry placement. In the fourth year, they are being guided to pursue an individual research project to showcase the expertise they have developed through the Programme.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Option 1

At least three (3) simple passes (S) in the Physical Sciences stream or Engineering Technology stream in one sitting at the GCE A/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification.

Option 2

At least three (3) simple passes (S) in any stream in one sitting at the GCE A/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification, and:
- A Credit pass (C) in Mathematics at the GCE O/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification.
- Completion of the bridging programme approved by the Specified Authority.

Exemption Criteria:

Students who have obtained a Simple pass (S) for ICT along with two other simple passes at the GCE A/L Examination are exempted from the bridging programme. However, such students must still possess a Credit pass (C) in Mathematics at the GCE O/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification.

Pearson Edexel, Cambridge International Examinations with above Option 1, 2 and Exemption Criteria

G.C.E Advanced Level examination conducted by Pearson Edexel, UK (London A/L).
International Advanced Level examination conducted by Pearson Edexel, UK.
G.S.E Advanced Level examination conducted by Cambridge International Examination, UK
