Prof. Chaminda Wijesinghe has been a cornerstone of NSBM Green University since its inception, making transformative contributions to its academic excellence and growth. With a robust academic background and extensive expertise in education management, he has been instrumental in establishing and shaping the Faculty of Computing and the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Professional Advancement.

Prof. Wijesinghe began his academic journey in 2007 at the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) as a Consultant/Lecturer, where he pioneered the development and introduction of several innovative programs. These include the Diploma in Computer Systems Design (Part-Time), Diploma in Software Development, Diploma in Computer Networks, Certificate in Software Development in Java, and Advanced Certificate in Software Development using J2EE, significantly enhancing NIBM’s computer science offerings.

Since NSBM’s establishment, Prof. Wijesinghe has been a driving force in the School of Computing, serving as Head of Academics and Dean. He spearheaded the initiation and development of Bachelor of Science programs in Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Data Science, personally designing their curricula and securing government approval for these degrees. Additionally, he introduced the University Grants Commission-approved Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Networks, further strengthening NSBM’s academic portfolio. His visionary leadership also led to the introduction of pioneering Artificial Intelligence degree programs, positioning NSBM at the forefront of cutting-edge education in Sri Lanka.

A trailblazer in research, Prof. Wijesinghe initiated the first-ever Student Research Symposium of the Faculty of Computing and the inaugural Faculty-level Research Conference at NSBM Green University, fostering a vibrant research culture. He has served as a reviewer, panel member, and chair at various international research conferences and as Conference Chair for several prestigious events. Additionally, he has contributed as a member of the judging panel for national-level ICT awards, recognizing excellence in the field. His scholarly contributions include numerous research articles published in indexed journals, reflecting his expertise and commitment to advancing computer science.

Prof. Wijesinghe’s academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Peradeniya. He further distinguished himself by earning a PhD from Stockholm University, becoming the first PhD holder from the NSBM-Stockholm University collaboration. As a Senior Lecturer, his track record of delivering high-quality education is complemented by his leadership as the first Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Professional Advancement and the first Head of the Department of Data Science, roles in which he significantly advanced both units.

Before entering academia, Prof. Wijesinghe served as a licensed Air Traffic Controller at Bandaranaike International Airport for nearly five years. Driven by his passion for education, he transitioned to academia, where his leadership and dedication have profoundly impacted Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape.
