Dr. Mahinda Alahakoon joined NSBM Green University in March 2025, bringing with him decades of academic experience from both foreign and Sri Lankan government universities. After earning a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the esteemed University of Peradeniya, he started his academic career in 1985.
He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees after pursuing postgraduate studies in the United States. After returning to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alahakoon worked as a Senior Lecturer (Grade I) at the University of Peradeniya from 1993 to 2014, where he held several important leadership positions, such as Director of the Information Technology Center and Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering. He was also involved in Postgraduate teaching in the Faculty of Engineering, PGIS and PGIA during his tenure in University of Peradeniya.
He broadened his scholarly horizons by working as a visiting researcher at Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman and then as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Nizwa during the time from 2014 – 2017.
Dr. Alahakoon joined the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) in 2019 where he functioned as the Head of the Department of Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering.
His areas of teaching and research include digital logic circuits and design, circuit analysis, measurements & instrumentation, digital image processing, and applications of robotics and automation. Dr. Alahakoon is actively involved in teaching, staff development, undergraduate research supervision, and curriculum revision at NSBM Green University.
