Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at NSBM Green University is committed to shaping the next generation of engineers who will design, build, and transform the infrastructure that supports modern society. From resilient cities and intelligent transportation networks to sustainable buildings and innovative construction solutions, our programmes empower students to turn engineering concepts into real-world impact.

The Department offers two distinctive undergraduate pathways: the B.Sc. (Hons) in Engineering – Civil Engineering and the BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering, offered in collaboration with Plymouth University, United Kingdom. These programmes provide students with a strong foundation in engineering principles while developing the creativity, analytical thinking, technical expertise, and professional skills required to succeed in a rapidly evolving global industry.

Department Head's Message

Engineering Excellence, Building Resilience, Shaping a Sustainable Future Civil engineering has always been at the heart of human advancement, shaping the infrastructure, communities and environments upon which society depends. From buildings, bridges and transportation networks to water resources, coastal infrastructure and sustainable urban systems, civil engineers play a vital role in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Today, the profession is evolving beyond traditional boundaries. Climate change, natural hazards, rapid urbanization, resource limitations and technological transformation demand engineers who can think innovatively, act responsibly and develop resilient, sustainable solutions. At the Department of Civil Engineering, NSBM Green University, we are committed to preparing the next generation of engineers with the knowledge, skills, creativity and professional values required to address the complex challenges of a rapidly changing world. We aim to provide a dynamic, industry oriented learning environment that combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical experience, innovative thinking, emerging technologies and sustainable practices, believing that tomorrow’s engineers must be both technically competent and capable of delivering meaningful, responsible solutions. Our students learn within a modern, purpose built Departmental Complex, designed to support high quality teaching, hands on learning, collaborative design, research and innovation. The Department is equipped with advanced engineering laboratories, a computer simulation laboratory and a dedicated drawing office, giving students the opportunity to bridge engineering theory with real world application. Our teaching and research are closely aligned with the pressing challenges facing the built environment, including earthquake and structural engineering, geotechnical and landslide hazard assessment, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, sustainable construction materials, transportation and highway engineering, environmental engineering and resilient infrastructure development. By combining experimental investigation, advanced computational modelling, emerging digital technologies and field based learning, we aspire to create solutions that are both technically sound and environmentally responsible. We also believe that a strong engineering department is built through collaboration. We look forward to developing meaningful partnerships with industry, professional institutions, universities, researchers and international collaborators, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, applied research, innovation and professional development, while strengthening the connection between academic learning and the evolving needs of the profession. As the Department, I, together with all my colleagues, am deeply committed to building a culture of academic excellence, integrity, innovation, collaboration and service. Together, we look forward to creating an inspiring environment where students discover their potential, researchers pursue meaningful ideas and industry partners collaborate in addressing real world engineering challenges. Together, we inspire innovation, engineer resilience and shape a sustainable future.
