NSBM Green University Hosts Guest Lecture on the Importance of Surveying in Construction Projects
The Department of Design Studies of the Faculty of Engineering at NSBM Green University successfully hosted a special guest lecture on “The Importance of Surveying in Construction Projects” on 21 October 2026, providing undergraduates with valuable insights into the role of surveying in the construction industry and its contribution to effective project planning and execution.
The session was conducted by Mrs. O. T. M. I. Tilakaratne, Surveyor General of Sri Lanka, who shared her professional knowledge and experience on the functions of the Survey Department of Sri Lanka, the responsibilities of surveyors, and the significance of accurate survey information throughout the construction process.
The lecture also explored recent technological advancements in surveying and their applications in the built environment. Particular attention was given to how survey data supports quantity surveyors in their professional work, alongside practical experiences and common challenges encountered in surveying on construction sites.
An engaging question-and-answer session followed the lecture, allowing students to interact directly with the Surveyor General, clarify their questions, and gain further perspectives on surveying practices and professional expectations within the construction industry.
NSBM Green University extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Tilakaratne for sharing her time, expertise, and professional experience with its undergraduates. The university also acknowledges everyone who contributed to the successful organisation of this valuable academic engagement.
Through initiatives such as these, NSBM Green University continues to strengthen the connection between academic learning and industry practice, equipping students with practical knowledge and professional insights relevant to their future careers in the built environment.
