NSBM Green University hosted its first-ever Nursing Pledge Ceremony on 15th November 2023 at NSBM Auditorium, marking a significant milestone for the university and the Faculty of Science.

The ceremony honoured the inaugural batch of NSBM nursing students who have completed their first academic year and are embarking on advanced nursing training. To symbolise this transition, the students were bestowed with nursing caps and customary three-wick lamps, symbolic of the knowledge and skilful hands inspired by a loving heart. With great vigour and voices laced with pride and confidence, the nursing students took the oath, expressing their commitment to upholding the qualities of a professional nurse.

The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of the rof. E. A. Weerasinghe, the Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University, Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Baratha Dodakotuwa, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Deans of the faculties and academic and non-academic staff members.

Prof. S. S. P. Warnakulasooriya, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Colombo, graced this momentous occasion as the chief guest. The event also saw the presence of distinguished invitees, including Director Dr. Rathnasiri Hewage, Director of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, and senior nursing officials from the same hospital. The parents of the nursing students were actively involved in the ceremony.

As a tribute to Lady Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern organised nursing practice, Prof. S. S. P. Warnakulasooriya ignited the traditional Nightingale Lamp and garlanded the gleaming statue of Lady Florence Nightingale, symbolising a commitment to the values and principles of nursing.

NSBM Green University extends heartfelt wishes to the first batch of nursing undergraduates as they mark the beginning of a new chapter in nursing education and practice.
