The Vice Chancellor’s Challenge Trophy Basketball Tournament 2026, featuring an exciting showdown between the NSBM Alumni Basketball Team and the current NSBM Basketball Team, was held on 19 August 2026 at the NSBM Recreational Centre. The tournament featured highly competitive Men’s and Women’s encounters, bringing together past and present NSBM athletes in a spirited display of skill, teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship.

Following two closely contested matches, the NSBM Alumni Basketball Team emerged victorious in both the Men’s and Women’s categories, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, experience, and competitive spirit throughout the tournament. Recognising outstanding individual performances, Dinush Jayaweera was named the Men’s Most Valuable Player, while Gaganie Silva was awarded the Women’s Most Valuable Player for their impressive contributions to their respective teams.

The event was graced by Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance, together with Ms. Hasali Rajakaruna and Mr. Yadawa Weerakoon, Masters-in-Charge of the NSBM Basketball Club, along with academic and non-academic staff members.

The tournament not only celebrated sporting excellence but also strengthened the connection between NSBM’s alumni and current student community, highlighting the enduring spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship fostered at NSBM Green University.
