The Law Society of NSBM Green University successfully hosted the Preliminary Rounds of Kathika 2026, bringing together passionate young debaters from across all faculties of NSBM to engage with challenging issues through advocacy, reasoning, critical thinking, and persuasive communication.

The competition featured an esteemed panel of judges, including Mr. Gimhan Sooriyabandara, Attorney-at-Law and Debate Coach; Mr. Eshan Sandungahawatte, Attorney-at-Law; Ms. Dimithri Wijesinghe, Attorney-at-Law; Mr. Malindu Pieris, Attorney-at-Law; and Mr. Ravidu Wijayasinghe, Attorney-at-Law and News Presenter.

The judges’ insightful comments, constructive feedback, and valuable observations added significant value to the preliminary rounds, giving participants an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while further developing their debating, advocacy, and analytical skills.

The event was also graced by Ms. Anne Pathiranage, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Prof. Shanthi Segarajasingham, Head of the Department of Legal Studies; Ms. Samithri Wanniachy, Lecturer in Charge of the Law Society; and lecturers attached to the Department of Legal Studies.

Following the preliminary rounds, two teams from each category—English and Sinhala—were selected to advance to the Final Rounds of Kathika 2026. The finalists will now take the stage to demonstrate their knowledge, confidence, critical thinking, reasoning, and advocacy skills as they compete for top honours.
