Pandora 26' – RAG Builderthon Sparks Innovation at NSBM

The Pandora 26′ – RAG Builderthon brought together technology, creativity, and teamwork in an exciting celebration of student innovation, as the Faculty of Computing at NSBM Green University hosted one of its most creative and technology-driven events. Organised by the Association of Software Engineering (ASE), the Builderthon challenged students to explore the possibilities of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and develop innovative, Pandora-inspired solutions within a limited timeframe.
Designed to push participants beyond conventional approaches to software development, the Builderthon provided students with an opportunity to experiment with emerging Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI technologies while transforming their ideas into functional solutions. The time-bound challenge encouraged participants to demonstrate technical expertise, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork.
After an intense and engaging competition, Team Kratos emerged as the champions, securing 1st Place, while Team Zeylix claimed 2nd Place and Team Vortex Code secured 3rd Place. The winning teams were recognised for their innovative approaches, technical capabilities, and ability to effectively leverage RAG technologies in developing their solutions.
The event was honoured by the presence of several distinguished representatives of the Faculty of Computing, including Dr. Rasika Ranaweera, Dean, Faculty of Computing; Mr. Saravanapavan Nasiketha, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Computing; Ms. Pavithra Subashini; Mr. Anton Jayakody; and Mr. Nimesha Hewawasam, Lecturer-in-Charge.
The competition was further strengthened by an esteemed industry judging panel comprising Ms. Thejani Yapa from Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd., Mr. Kushan Tharaka from ADL, and Ms. Harindi Balasooriya from Omobio (Pvt) Ltd. Their industry expertise and insights added valuable professional perspectives to the evaluation of the participants’ innovative solutions.
