NSBM’s International Center for Tourism and Hospitality celebrates World Tourism Day 2022

Traversa 2022, the annual world tourism day celebration organized by the International Center for Tourism and Hospitality of NSBM Green University concluded successfully on 7th October 2022. The event was organized under the patronage of Hilton Sri Lanka; one of the Department’s ardent supporters in its tourism and hospitality-related endeavours.

This year’s Traversa 2022 was organized in line with the theme of “Rethinking Tourism”. The event featured a plethora of insightful activities, including the Grand Finale of ‘Destination Sri Lanka’ – the Intra-university knowledge challenge organized by the university in collaboration with SLAITO Youth, A panel discussion on rethinking Sri Lanka’s tourism industry’s future, and several tourism skits focusing on global tourism industry best practices.

Mr. Manesh Fernando, Area General Manager, Sri Lanka (Hilton) graced Traversa 2022 as the Chief Guest of the occasion and shared his invaluable experience across his illustrious career in the hospitality industry to motivate the next generation of tourism and hospitality undergraduates of the university.

Traversa 2022 was also graced by Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake the Deputy Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University, Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa the Head of Academic Development & Quality Assurance, and Ms. Thilini De Silva the Dean of the Faculty of Business. The event’s value was further enhanced by the presence of several distinguished personalities representing the local tourism and hospitality industry including Mr. Sanchitha Uduwavidana – Director Of Human Resources (Hilton), Mr. Dilum Ediriweera – Human Resources Manager (Hilton), Ms. Thamara Koongolla – Assistant Learning & Development Manager (Hilton), Mr. George Paul – President of SLAITO Youth, Mr. Maxime Wickramasinghe – Past President of SLAITO Youth, Ms. Naamini Jayaratne – Digital Content Creator and Alumna of NSBM Green University.
