NSBM Powerlifting Club Secures Overall Runners-Up at Shakthi Powerlifting Championship 2026
The NSBM Powerlifting Club delivered an outstanding performance at the Shakthi Powerlifting Championship 2026, held on 26 August 2026, securing the Overall Runners-Up title and adding another remarkable achievement to NSBM’s growing legacy in university sports.
The championship saw NSBM athletes compete across multiple weight categories, demonstrating exceptional strength, discipline, determination, and competitive spirit. Their impressive performances resulted in seven medals, including three Gold, three Silver, and one Bronze.

Making History with Four National Records
Adding to the team’s outstanding achievement, K.O.K. Perera delivered a historic performance in the 105 kg category, setting four new Junior U23 National Records.
His record-breaking lifts were:
- Squat: 256 kg
- Bench Press: 163 kg
- Deadlift: 255.5 kg
- Total: 674.5 kg
This exceptional achievement reflects not only Perera’s remarkable strength and dedication, but also the commitment and perseverance of the entire NSBM Powerlifting Club.
The Overall Runners-Up title, together with the seven individual medals and four new Junior U23 National Records, marks another proud milestone for NSBM and highlights the University’s commitment to nurturing excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
