The 4th Annual Science Research Symposium (ASRS 2026), organized by the Faculty of Science, NSBM Green University, was successfully held on 2nd September 2026 under the inspiring theme “Beyond the Bench: Bridging Discovery, Evidence and Health.” The symposium provided a valuable platform for undergraduate students to showcase their research, communicate their findings, and engage in meaningful academic discussions.

We were honoured to have Prof. Narmada Fernando, Professor of Immunology at the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Fernando delivered an inspiring keynote address on “Breaking the Captivity of Negativity: Unlock the Potential in Research and Academic Life,” encouraging students to overcome self-doubt, embrace challenges, and recognize their potential to grow as researchers and academics.

The symposium was graced by the presence of Professor Thilini De Silva, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); Professor Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance; Dr. Nuwanthi Katuwavila, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Dr. Madhavi Hewadikaram, Dean of Postgraduate and Professional Advancement and Head of the Department of Health Sciences; and Dr. Miruna Rabindrakumar, Head of the Department of Life Sciences. We were also honoured by the presence of Professor Pathmalal Manage, Professor. L. P. Jayatissa, and Professor Rohini De Silva, along with other esteemed members of the academic staff. Their presence and continued support added immense value to the success of ASRS 2026.

This year, 34 undergraduate research projects were presented through oral and poster presentations, showcasing the creativity, dedication, and scientific curiosity of our undergraduate researchers. The presentations reflected not only their research knowledge and technical skills, but also their ability to communicate scientific ideas and explore challenges beyond the laboratory. The award for Best Oral Presentation was presented to V. D. Hary, and Best Poster Presentation was awarded to R.H. De Silva.

The symposium marked another significant milestone in strengthening the culture of undergraduate research, scientific inquiry, innovation, and academic excellence at NSBM Green University.
