The NSBM Chess Festival 2026, organised by the NSBM Chess Club, concluded on a high note following two action-packed days that brought together some of Sri Lanka’s finest university and school chess talent under one roof.

The festival featured two major championships, with the first day dedicated to the Inter-University Chess Championship and the second to the Inter-School Chess Championship, creating a platform for young chess enthusiasts from across the island to compete, connect and celebrate the game.

The Inter-University Chess Championship brought together 19 university teams, competing through a series of challenging matches that tested strategic thinking, concentration and decision-making. The excitement continued on Day Two with the Inter-School Chess Championship, which saw an impressive 80 school teams representing schools from across Sri Lanka take part in the competition. Across the two days, the festival welcomed more than 500 chess players, making the NSBM Chess Festival 2026 a significant gathering for the local chess community and one of the notable chess events held in Sri Lanka..

The successful conclusion of the festival reflects the commitment of the NSBM Chess Club to creating meaningful platforms for students and young players to develop their skills, challenge themselves and engage with the wider chess community.
