The Department of Accounting & Finance of the Faculty of Business at NSBM Green University recently organised a guest lecture on Sustainability and Integrated Reporting for its Year 3 Accounting & Finance undergraduates, as part of the Financial Reporting and Disclosure (ACF 3232) module.

The session brought together academic learning and professional practice, providing students with an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the evolving landscape of corporate reporting. The guest lecture featured three industry experts from Acuity Analytics – Ms. Nilasi Perera, Mr. Navindu Palliyaguruge, and Mr. Methshan Padmapriya, Delivery Leads in Buy-side Investment Research.

Drawing on their professional experience, the resource persons engaged with students on key areas including the Integrated Reporting Framework, ESG and sustainability disclosures, and emerging trends influencing the future of corporate reporting. The session also provided students with a broader understanding of how financial reporting is increasingly connected with sustainability, transparency, and long-term value creation.

The guest lecture further highlighted the importance of equipping future accounting and finance professionals with the knowledge and competencies required to navigate the changing expectations of the corporate sector. By connecting classroom learning with current industry practices, the initiative enabled students to explore the practical relevance of concepts covered within their academic curriculum.

The initiative also reflects NSBM Green University’s continued commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By facilitating meaningful engagement between students and industry professionals, the session contributed to SDG 4 – Quality Education, while its focus on sustainability, transparency, and responsible corporate reporting aligned with SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
