FUSION 2026 Inspires Future Engineers Through Sustainable Engineering
FUSION 2026, held on 14 September 2026, brought together aspiring young engineers, academics and industry professionals to celebrate creativity, innovation and the problem-solving spirit of the next generation of engineers under the inspiring theme, “Sustainable Engineering for a Better Tomorrow.”
The inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a dynamic programme designed to create opportunities for knowledge sharing, innovation and collaboration, while encouraging young minds to explore the possibilities of engineering and sustainable technology.
The event was honoured by the presence of Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Prof. Thilini De Silva; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Chandana Perera; Heads of Departments; and academic and administrative staff of the Faculty of Engineering. Adding further value to the event, Chartered Engineer Dilrukshi Prasangika Kumari, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Ltd, joined the event as the Keynote Speaker, sharing industry insights and inspiring participants to explore the role of engineering in building a more sustainable future.
A range of engaging and educational activities was organised as part of FUSION 2026, particularly focusing on inspiring school students and introducing them to the diverse possibilities within engineering and sustainable technology.
The Green Energy Challenge, organised by the NSBM Renewable Energy Club, encouraged participants to explore creative and innovative solutions in renewable energy and sustainable engineering. Meanwhile, the Robotics Workshop, conducted by the NSBM Robotics Club, provided participants with a hands-on introduction to robotics, automation and emerging engineering technologies, allowing them to learn through experimentation and practical engagement.
Through these activities, FUSION 2026 provided a dynamic platform for young minds to discover, create, experiment and envision a more sustainable future through engineering. The event reflected the Faculty of Engineering’s continued commitment to nurturing innovation, encouraging problem-solving and empowering the engineers who will contribute to shaping a sustainable tomorrow.
