In an attempt to enable IT for Agriculture, the NSBM Faculty of Computing has launched “Green Tech Move”; a project leading to a paradigm shift with a high-tech Agri system to ensure a high yield in crop cultivation, reduce post-harvest losses, increase collaboration of knowledge groups, increase market access, and improve better decision making, or any other problems agriculture domain is facing.
As a stepping stone for this Green Tech Move project, the faculty hosted an informative session called “Green Teah Talk” on 6th June 2022 with the participation of Prof. L M Abeywickrama, Senior Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. The computing students of NSBM participated in the session and received in-depth knowledge about current issues in the agricultural domain.
Subsequently, the Senior Professor engaged in individual supervision of students’ projects which were designed to provide technical solutions for areas lacking techno assistance in the agricultural domain, using artificial intelligence, IoT, Cloud Computing, software engineering, big data analysis, Ubiquitous Computing, assistive systems, industrial automation, consumer solution designing, bioinformatics, and intelligent systems.
The Green Tech Move project was initiated under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor of NSBM, Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake and Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa, and is carried out by a team of NSBM academics headed by Ms.Pavithra Subashini, Senior Lecturer / Head of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, NSBM Faculty of Computing.
