Dr. Malshani Chathuranika Nissanka is a graduate from the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science (Special) degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences. She further obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, with her doctoral research focusing on the assessment of crystalline biofilm development by Proteus mirabilis on Foley catheter materials and the evaluation of curcumin-modified silver nanoparticle coatings as antibiofilm strategies.
Prior to joining NSBM Green University, she served as a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon and as a Lecturer (on contract) in the Department of Microbiology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She has also served as an Academic Demonstrator at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Open University of Sri Lanka. She is a Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and Ceylon Medical College Council (CMCC) registered Medical Laboratory Scientist, with a strong foundation in clinical laboratory practice. She has gained one year of hands-on clinical experience across major laboratory disciplines, including haematology, pathology, clinical biochemistry and microbiology, during her training at Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital.
Currently, she is serving as a Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science, NSBM Green University.
