Dr. Athula Manawaduge is a Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance at NSBM Green University. He served as a Professor of Accounting at a state university, with over three decades of experience in higher education, spanning undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and academic leadership.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a master’s degree in accounting and finance from Lancaster University, and a PhD from the University of Wollongong, where his research focused on corporate governance and corporate performance in emerging markets.
His research interests include corporate governance, performance evaluation, financial distress analysis, and corporate reporting. He has published in reputable international peer-reviewed journals and has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research studies locally and internationally.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, he has also undertaken extensive consultancy work, including feasibility studies, post-project evaluations, and company valuations. As a co-founder of the Department of Accounting at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, he played a key role in advancing accounting education, research culture, and curriculum development.
He has held several senior administrative roles, including Head of Department, and has served as a member of the University Senate and Council. He has also contributed to national-level curriculum development in accounting education through the National Institute of Education.
