BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering Top-Up Degree

PLYMOUTH UNIVERSITY - UNITED KINGDOM

Duration -

The BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering Top-Up Degree provides a direct progression route into the final year of the University of Plymouth degree programme delivered at NSBM Green University.

The programme is designed for applicants who already hold relevant higher-level qualifications and have suitable industrial experience. Delivered on a part-time basis, it allows working professionals to advance their academic qualifications while continuing their careers in the civil engineering industry.

Final-year study focuses on advanced areas of civil and structural engineering, including structural analysis and design, water engineering, geotechnical engineering and computer-aided engineering. Students also complete a substantial individual project, allowing them to investigate and develop solutions to a selected civil engineering problem.

KEY FEATURES

  • Direct entry to Level 6 / Final Year
  • Part-time study suitable for working engineering professionals
  • Advanced study in structural, geotechnical and water engineering
  • Application of Computer Aided Engineering in civil engineering analysis and design
  • Practical and problem-based learning relevant to professional civil engineering practice
  • Completion of a substantial Individual Project

The programme develops technical, analytical and design capabilities while encouraging independent learning and professional decision-making. Students are exposed to areas such as structures, geotechnics, hydraulics, environmental engineering and construction, with learning supported by practical activities and specialist facilities.

Aims of the Top- Up Program

The Top-Up programme aims to provide a progression pathway for civil engineering professionals who wish to upgrade their existing qualifications to an honours degree.

It is designed to deepen students’ understanding of civil and structural engineering while developing their ability to apply theoretical, analytical and practical approaches to engineering problems. Particular emphasis is placed on structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering, water engineering and computer-aided engineering.

The programme also develops professional and transferable skills required in the construction and design sectors, while encouraging an understanding of the economic, legal, social, ethical and environmental responsibilities associated with civil engineering practice.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Students entering through the Top-Up pathway undertake Level 6 of the BEng (Hons) Civil and Structural Engineering programme, comprising 120 credits.
