This year in relation to the NSBM Open Day 2019 Faculty of computing launched an exhibition themed “SMART SRI LANKA”. The proposed theme focused to integrate national digitization blueprint. The exhibition showcased comprehensive and novel exhibits representing areas such as Smart business, Smart Transportation, Smart Health, Smart Environment, etc. covering different facets and processes of the nation’s socioeconomic operations.
Under the theme of “Smart Health” students presented different conceptual prototypes and real implementations. One such exhibit showcased a smart counseling room that imitates the traditional face-to-face counseling process. Another exhibit demonstrated an AI-based cancer detection application. Similar to an MRI scan output this will try to visualize the location of cancer affected areas in the body.
There were several Smart business ideas presented in the exhibition including a smart shopping cart that facilitate the automated queue-less shopping experience. Several ideas were presented using a mobile concept of how location-based services deliver enhanced business services to clients. E.g. Nearest restaurant identification along with the ability to compare prices and availability of food items among the selected restaurants. Another web-based application proposed all in one solution to minimize problems related to the construction industry.
“Smart transport” aims to address real-world problem scenarios, parking problems, and road accidents. Such exhibits proposed automated car parking systems and automated railway monitoring systems.
There were many other Smart solutions provided in various other disciplines as well. These included smart data sharing options, smart garbage handling concepts, and solar power concepts to reduce electricity bills, etc.
