Duothan 3.0, the third chapter of the annual hackathon hosted at NSBM concluded on a triumphant note on 24th February 2023 at Faculty of Computing. It was unfolded as a joint effort which was organised by the IEEE Student Branch of NSBM in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society of NSBM and the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of NSBM.
With success carried forward over the past two years, the scope of Duothan was expanded in this third chapter from algorithm-based hackathons through Hackerrank to holding a Buildathon with the explicit purpose of enhancing the coding skills of undergraduates. Buildathon is a competition where participants have to rebuild a half-built application according to the given guidelines within six hours in which they are able to use any preferred programming.
ExactPro joined hands with Duothan 3.0 as the main knowledge partner, whilst Virtusa and hsenidMobile also came on board as the other knowledge partners, and 20+ evaluators contributed to the competition from different domains. The team of evaluators representing ExactPro consisted of Mr Sarath Kadigamugedara, Mr.Kapila Karunarathna & team, Virtusa was represented by Mr Tharaka Mahabage and Hsneid team included Mr. Krishall Magage and Mr. Mudara Bandaranayaka.
Hosting the largest ever inter-university buildathon in Sri Lanka, Duothan 3.0 had the participation of 60+ teams and 300+ members from 10+ universities, namely NSBM, NIBM, KDU, IIT, Sabaragamuwa University(SUSL), SLTC, University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), University of Moratuwa and CINEC Campus.
Participants competed in groups of four and the winning teams bagged cash prizes and certificates. A group of participants from UCSC emerged as the winners of the competition, whilst both the second and third places were won by groups of undergraduates representing NSBM. The prizes and certificates to winners and all the participants were presented by the Vice Chancellor of NSBM Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe and the Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Prof. Bharatha Dodankotuwa.
Duothan 3.0 was organised under the guidance of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and IEEE branch counsellor of NSBM, Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Dr. Rasika Ranaweera and Mistress in Charge of IEEE representing Faculty of Computing, Ms. Dulanjali Wijesekara.
