To accomplish this, we should enable opportunities to pursue higher education for the student community of the country that has lost the opportunity to enter into state universities even if they qualify after GCE Advanced Level examination. As long as there are no opportunities and the environment is not conducive to pursue courses that are curated on global job market requirements, the youth unemployment of the country will not be resolved.

As the Vice-Chancellor of this prestigious university, it fills me with immense pleasure and pride to reflect upon our journey of success on this remarkable occasion that NSBM Green University celebrates its five victorious years.

In Sri Lanka, one’s path towards acquiring a higher education qualification is extremely competitive. This has resulted in a higher percentage of Sri Lankan students who qualify for university education annually are being left out as they lack the opportunity to secure a place. Fulfilling their dreams and bridging this gap of Sri Lankan university education, NSBM (National School of Business Management) officially emerged in the year 2011 as a self-financed project. With NSBM City Campus, which was established in the heart of Nugegoda, a journey of thousand miles began there. The success City Campus achieved in a short span of time further assured the NSBM management about the greatest potentials of the NSBM Green University project, which at the time was underway.

On 26th October 2016, our journey reached its crowning milestone. Turning a new page in Sri Lankan higher education, NSBM Green University, an architectural masterpiece built in Pitipana, Homagama, was ceremonially bestowed upon the benefit of the Sri Lankan youth. That marked the opening of the first-ever green university in South Asia and a 26-acre state-of-the-art university complex with international standard facilities. Since then, over these five victorious years, we have stayed true and dedicated to providing excellence in unmatched and unparallel education and professional practice for the young generation to transform the country into a knowledge driven economy.

As of today, NSBM has gone the extra mile to continue our service to the nation as a degree-awarding institute ratified by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka and being affiliated to world-renowned top-ranked universities such as University of Plymouth, UK and Victoria University, Australia. These varied and diversified internationally accredited degree programmes offered at NSBM are a favourable alternative to the large number of students who opt for overseas education, thereby retaining much of the foreign exchange that is drained out of the country annually and earning a substantial amount of foreign currency by attracting international students who are drawn to western education institutes.

When reminiscing on our journey so far, NSBM Green University has evolved in quality and quantity, becoming a leading university among the other higher education institutes in Sri Lanka and being internationally recognized. Currently, the university achieves approximately 2,700 new enrolments per year and owns a 11,000+ student population studying for 40+ undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes under 14 academic departments of the 4 faculties of study: Faculty of Business, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Science. Further, taking our green university concept to the next level, NSBM recently embarked on Phase II of the NSBM Green University project. This latest ongoing construction project in another 15-acre land adjoining the existing university premises pushes the physical boundaries of NSBM while expanding the opportunities and facilities we offer.

In the success journey of NSBM, we keep pride in the in the well knowledged and skillful globally employable graduates produced each passing year. Since our inception in 2016 until today, approximately 8000 graduates nourished under the wings of NSBM have been privileged to open their own doors of success and have grown up to be citizens capable of positively and significantly contribute to society at large.

Celebrating this defining milestone of NSBM, I make this an opportunity to express my gratitude towards all the government officials, international representatives, NSBM Student community, parents and finally, the society at large, on behalf of all of us at NSBM.
