Mr. J Baratha Dodankotuwa is an Associate Professor attached to Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya. He graduated from University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Bachelor of Science Estate Management and Valuation (Special) Degree in 1984. He was selected to the academic staff of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, USJP in 1985. In 1987, he earned Postgraduate Diploma in Demography from University of Colombo and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Urban Planning) from Kobe University, Japan in 1991. He held the headships of Department of Estate Management and Valuation and Department of Business Economics in the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, USJP. Mr. Dodankotuwa was appointed as the Chairman, NIBM in 2004 and the Chairman Milco (Pvt) Ltd in 2005. He joined University of Peradeniya in 2007 and held the responsibilities as the Head, Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Arts and Head, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management.

Mr. Dodankotuwa is a pioneering academic at NSBM when he joined 2012 on sabbatical leave to spend one year. During this period, he was instrumental in preparing the NSBM Corporate Plan 2013 – 2018 and the NSBM Magazine ‘Business Dialogue.’ He again joined NSBM in 2015 for another year on sabbatical leave. His research interests and areas of concentration are real estate, leadership and contemporary issues in management, human resource management and international business.

Prof. J. Baratha Dodankotuwa is currently the Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance at NSBM Green University. He graduated from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) with a B.Sc. Estate Management and Valuation (Special) Degree in 1984. His prestigious academic journey includes earning an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Urban Planning and Transport from Kobe University, Japan, in 1991 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Population Studies from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1987.

Prof. Dodankotuwa has an extensive academic and administrative background of over 37 years in various universities, holding a range of positions. Notably, He commenced his academic career in 1985 by getting selected to the academic staff of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at USJ, where he held the headships of the Department of Estate Management and Valuation and the Department of Business Economics. He joined the University of Peradeniya in 2007 and held the responsibilities as a senior lecturer, the Head of the Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Arts and the Head of the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management.

In addition to Prof. Dodankotuwa’s academic roles, he has worked in various capacities outside academia. This includes serving as the Chairman of Milco (Pvt) Ltd and Chairman of the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM). Furthermore, he has been a Visiting Lecturer at the Kotalawela Defense Academy and conducted research at Informatics (Pvt) Limited in Kobe, Japan. His diverse experience includes roles as a Research Assistant for Urban Planning and Economics projects and field research in collaboration with the Urban Development Authority, UNCHS, and the Government of the Netherlands. He has also engaged in many projects and workshops in the capacities of Consultant, Researcher, Economist, GIS Specialist and Financial Analyst.

Professor Dodankotuwa is renowned for his multifaceted contributions to both the academic and societal realms, showcasing leadership, organisational skills, and a commitment to community development. His notable commitments involve active engagement in various special activities, volunteer posts, and extra-curricular endeavours.

Prof. J. Baratha Dodankotuwa is a pioneering academic who has significantly contributed to the academic landscape at NSBM. His association with NSBM began in 2012 when he joined on sabbatical leave for a year. During this tenure, he played a pivotal role in formulating the NSBM Corporate Plan 2013 – 2018 and contributed to the creation of the NSBM Magazine, ‘Business Dialogue.’

In 2015, Prof. Dodankotuwa returned to NSBM for another year on sabbatical leave, and since then, he has become an integral part of NSBM Green University as a full-time academic. Initially serving as the Head of Student Affairs in 2016 – 2017, he was later appointed as the Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance in 2018. Notably, he played a key role in initiating the International Conference on Business Innovation (ICOBI) in 2018, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence.

Prof. Dodankotuwa’s diverse research interests and concentrations include real estate and urban planning, leadership, contemporary issues in management, human resource management, and international business. His multifaceted expertise enriches the academic environment at NSBM, contributing to its growth and development.
